Itamar Erez Quartet: Jazz at the Griff

The Jazz at the Griff series, presented by Trail & District Arts Council, brings you the Itamar Erez Quartet. Enjoy the jazz club vibe as you savour a glass of wine in a setting that is up close and personal with the band.

Erez is an internationally renowned composer, guitarist, and pianist, who blends the delicateness of Middle Eastern music, the freedom found in jazz, and the passion of flamenco, to create a unique sound. Erez received the 2014 ACUM Prize for Special Achievement in Jazz and the prestigious 2014 Landau Prize.

The quartet also features John Nicholson (sax), Jeff Gammon (bass), and Kevin Romain (drums).

Itamar has released 5 abums so far. Two with his quartet The Adama Ensemble’s “Desert Song” (2006) & “Hommage” (2010) and a duet collaboration with Yshai Afterman (percussion), and special guest Antonio Serrano (harmonica) called “New Dawn” (2013). His first solo album “Mi Alegria” was released in June 2019 and has received raving reviews, both nationally and internationally, including a nomination for the 2020 Instrumental Artist of the Year Award from the Canadian Folk Music Awards. His most recent album "May Song" was released in Oct 2022.

has performed throughout the world including at The Barbican Hall (London UK), Sydney Opera (Sydney, Australia), the Jerusalem Jazz Festival (Israel), Oman Opera House, The Megaron (Athens, Greece), Schauspiel Leipzig (Germany), Amsterdam Jewish Music Festival (Holland), the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall (NY), and others.

As a composer, Itamar has written for various chamber ensembles and groups (such as the Sound Of Dragon Ensemble), as well as numerous pieces for the classical guitar. Compositions such as “Yahli’s Lullaby”, “Morning Song”, “Choro for Lulo” & “Choro Sentimental” are often played by concert guitarists in recitals.

Fawn Fritzen Quartet - Thursday, April 18, 7:30 pm

Raised on folk, classical, and musical theatre, Fawn Fritzen embodies Canada’s diversity with her mixed cultural roots of Chinese, French, and German, singing in her three ancestral languages as well as English. Joining Fawn are pianist David Restivo, guitarist/bassist, Doug Stephenson, and drummer Tony Ferraro.
