CANCELLED - Pokémon Detective Pikachu

July 3 9:30 to 11:15 pm

Unfortunately due to the excessive heat we have made the difficult decision to cancel all three Canada Day long weekend shows. We will decide in the next week if we will reschedule these shows or issue refunds. Free popcorn nights, graciously donated by Waneta Mall, will now be at the July 22-24 films TBA soon.

Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.

Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City--a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world--they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

“It seems that when you take a little yellow creature with a heart of gold and turn him into a soft-boiled detective, something special is in the cards.” – Kristen Page-Kirby, Washington Post

“Who would have thought that one of the most enjoyable buddy-cop movies of 2019 would star a Pokémon?” – Johnny Oleksinski, New York Post

About the Silver Screen Drive-in

The Royal Theatre and the Trail & District Arts Council have joined forces to imagine your new, favourite summer experience, the Silver Screen Drive-in. Running from June to September, films will screen Thursday through Saturday at sunset in the Waneta Plaza upper parking lot. Upcoming films will include those event movies that you’ve missed seeing on a big screen, retro classics from comedy to horror, as well as those Sunday Cinema favourites been as well as Oscar winning independent films and documentaries. Plus, live performances of music, theatre, dance and more!

Confirmed films

July 8 – Don’t miss out on the Oscar winning performance by Anthony Hopkins in “The Father” in this beautiful Academy Award-winning screenplay.

July 9 – Parents and grandparents get nostalgic and bring the kids to one of your favourite films from your youth, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”!  Sing along at the parade, make pretentious faces at art, and generally have fun. As Ferris says, “It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school.”

July 10 – Ever felt like your neighbours were looking down on you? The Croods know how you feel. “The Croods: A New Age” follows the prehistoric family as they are challenged by a rival family the Bettermans, who claim to be better and more evolved in this hilarious sequel.

July 15 – The Barkley Marathons follows a famous prison escape that sparks the idea for a cult-like race that only had 10 finishers in its first 25 years. This award-winning, oddly inspiring, and wildly funny documentary reveals the sports world's most guarded secret.

July 16 – A nostalgic trip for anyone relive your youth with “The Goonies” when a group of young misfits discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate's long-lost treasure.

July 17 Christopher Nolan blows our minds once again with “Tenet”, as the Protagonist journeys backwards and forwards through a twilight world of international espionage for the survival of the entire world.

The Silver Screen Drive-in is sponsored by Bounce Radio, Century 21, Kootenay Savings Credit Union, Teck Metals Ltd. and Tourism Rossland, and made possible thanks to support from Waneta Plaza and funding from the Government of British Columbia, BC Arts Council, and Canadian Heritage.
