Fiddle Sensation Calvin Vollrath in Concert with special guests Jeremy Rusu & Rhea Labrie

October 30 7:30 to 9:30 pm

Kootenay Fiddlers presents Canada's two-time Grand Mast Fiddle Champion, Cavin Vollrath, with special guests Jeremy Rusu and Rhea Labrie. Calvin  is a Canadian fiddler and composer and is one of the few European-Canadian fiddle players playing professionally in the Métis style. For the past several years, he has been a featured instructor at the Kootenay Fiddle Camp.

A prolific composer,  he has composed nearly 600 tunes many of which have become standard contest and dance tunes across North America & Europe. He composed 5 fiddle tunes for the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 Opening Ceremonies to represent the various styles of fiddling our country has to offer.

Calvin will be joined on stage by step dancer Rhea Labrie and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Rusu.  Blind since birth,  Jeremy's entire life has revolved around music.  Whether it's jazz piano, drums with a big band, country lead guitar, bluegrass mandolin or accordion,  Jeremy is right at home on stage as long as he is making music.

Calvin has recorded with many country artists over the years, most notably the legendary Ian Tyson. Calvin has appeared on many television shows including CTV’s "Sun Country", CTV's "Number I West" and was musical director for CBC's "Native Nashville North". CBC's 'Adrienne Clarkson Presents' aired a documentary on Métis fiddle music featuring Calvin Vollrath & John Arcand.
