Save Record Ridge Action Committee sends 76 page submission to Ministry of Mines, asks for your support

The Save Record Ridge Action Committee's submission for the Record Rishe Open Pit mine permitting proces has been submitted. Ty It includes a 76-page memorandum of argument, 2 expert reports, a petition of over 1,300 signatures, and scores of affidavits and impact statements. The overall package totals nearly 2,000 pages.

This submission shows that the mine permit application fails to meet the standards set by the province and that permits should not be issued for this mine. We demonstrate that:

- The application is fundamentally unsatisfactory, has numerous inconsistencies and gaps, and lacks necessary detail;
- The application fails to sufficiently protect the environment; and
- Multiple breaches of procedural fairness have severely compromised the permitting process.

Our submission is quite an achievement for a small community organization but comes with significant legal costs, expert fees, and administrative expenses. We have raised over $50,000 from our fundraising efforts, including substantial grants from West Coast Environmental Law and the Western Mining Action Network, and community donations, but it won’t be enough.

We are asking for your financial help so we can keep fighting. We’ve increased our go fund me goal by $20,000. When we set out on this journey, we set a goal that was within what we anticipated we would need. The addition of a second process with the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) and the number of issues identified with the application as outlined above, mean that our efforts and our costs are significantly higher than we first estimated. This increased funding goal will cover the remaining costs related to our recent submission and, more importantly, it will allow us to push for an environmental assessment in this second EAO process that is now underway.

We strongly believe that our communities are worth fighting for, and we know you feel the same way. If everyone who doesn't want this project to go ahead donates today, we will achieve our goal. The average donation to date has been $130, but every contribution makes a difference. Your generosity has and will continue to have a huge impact. Please take a moment now and make a donation or if possible, increase a donation you have already made, to help us preserve our environment, health, and way of life.
