Hi Rossland,
Does anyone know the rules about parking while renting? Do the owners have to supply a parking spot or do the renters have to find their own spot?

What type of situation are you in? Are you renting a unit and the owner also lives on site? Or do you rent the whole house? apartment? Where do the owners and previous tenants park? I know when we were considering putting in a suite above our garage, the city wanted to see that we could provide off-street parking for potential tenants...but older units may not have had that requirement. Is there street parking allowed nearby? As far as I know there is no reserved street parking, but many streets do allow it FCFS.
Do you realize you want someone to provide you with a place to park and someone to do your research for you?
It depends. First, check your lease. Did the owner commit to providing parking? If no, then no. Second, many homes in Rossland don't have parking available on the property. So, street parking is allowed almost everywhere. Second, if the home is very new, the owner was required to incorporate on-site parking into the site plan. So even if parking isn't indicated in your lease, you may have bylaw recourse depending on the age the house was built.
Thanks Alana. It's a house but renting the basement. They have a driveway but no parking for me. I guess I'll be parking on the road. This is all interesting though!
I'm a Rossland homeowner with no off-street parking. We have been parking on the road for 10 years. Just make sure you are aware of local bylaws for street parking (especially in the winter), to avoid a ticket.
